On 20th of June Emmaus International Fair was held in Paris. Caritas team was invited by Abbe Pierre Foundation. This was an opportunity to show and to sell Fojnica’s local products (juices, jams, honey, handicrafts). All the items were sold in a very short time and many visitors asked for more. For the 2nd time, we have been invited by Fondation Abbé Pierre to participate to the International Emmaus fair that will be held in Paris next 20th of june 2010. Around 30 different products (Juices, jam, Honey… and Bosnian Handicrafts) all coming from families living in Fojnica who are benefiting from the project, will be sold out during one day. These last weeks, we had the visit from two French solidarity travel operators which for the first one plans to diversify its offer already existing in the country and for the other one, intends to integrate Bosnia Herzegovina into its catalog of offer and so to multiply the choice of destinations for the travelers.
Sarah Devisme has been working for Caritas International Belgium since 5 years in the Balkans as a monitoring and evaluation officer. In parallel she has developped an expertise on rural tourism in the Balkans, thanks to the partnership enhanced in 2007 between Caritas and Auvergne Region in Bosnia. In this context she has been invited to the 4th world responsible tourism day organized by the “International coalition for a responsible tourism” in Paris on the 2nd of june 2010. The Balkans were the invited territory this year and the project implemented by Caritas in Central Bosnia has been presented.
Edouard Kopwa Mbya came for 4 months internship in BiH for the practical phase counting for his studies in Master’s degree tourism and management of the environment at the University of Angers. “I am currently spending my academic training course in Bosnia and Herzegovina within the NGO CARITAS. The remarkable qualities of this country coupled with the contents of my mission give a lively coloring to the time that I am spending here”
The renovation of the house bought by Caritas in the village of Obojak has started in april this year and will end in july. It will be dedicated to host local tourists passing by the village who wants to enjoy a coffee and/or a meal prepared by the villagers and buy local home made products, mountaineers on the way to Prokosko Jezero, and foreign guests coming for eco-tourism stay in BiH. The cottage will have 10 beds capacity (3 rooms) and guests will be able to enjoy a warm and traditional sitting room. Alterural, the association for the development of Rural tourism in BiH will also promote the village and house as a good example of sustainable tourism and preservation of the rural architecture heritage in BiH.
